SAN RAMON, CA and BLOOMINGTON, IN—August 23, 2006—Dr. Trevor Heritage, senior vice president and chief scientific officer of Elsevier MDL, has joined the Science Informatics Advisory Board (SIAB) at the Indiana University School of Informatics.

Heritage is among 12 leaders from the business, research and industry fields in science and discovery informatics. SIAB members advise the directors of the School’s graduate programs in bioinformatics, chemical informatics and laboratory informatics at its Bloomington and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campuses.

Chemical informatics and bioinformatics are the studies of information technology applied to research in the chemical, agrochemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology domains.

"Dr. Heritage's leadership skills and life sciences research experience will add depth to our board, particularly in areas such as student guidance and opportunities, curriculum and program development, public and private sector funding, external relations, long-range planning, research support and building strategic alliances," said School of Informatics Dean J. Michael Dunn.

Heritage brings extensive scientific and pharmaceutical research experience to the SIAB as well as knowledge of biopharma workflows and computational modeling.

"The interdisciplinary approach of the School of Informatics at Indiana University, focusing on both state-of-the-art information technology and chemistry/life sciences discovery, is thoroughly aligned with Elsevier MDL's research integration strategy, and I’m delighted to be a member of the Science Informatics Advisory Board," said Heritage.

A former senior vice president at Tripos, Inc., Heritage joined the Elsevier MDL management team in 2005. He holds a doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Reading, England, and began his career with Shell Research Ltd. in the United Kingdom.
