OHS Signs New Customer for Outsourced MSDS Services, Koch IndustriesFour Koch Business Units Choose OHS for MSDS Authoring, Translations, Regulatory Updates, Delivery, and Management ServicesNashville, TN, January 10, 2003OHS, a provider of outsourced environmental, health, and safety services and data and a business of MDL Information Systems, Inc., announced today that it has signed a services contract with a new customer for their outsourced MSDS services, Koch Industries (KOCH). OHS will provide an international, standardized solution for Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) management in support of four Koch business units: Koch Supply & Trading LP, Koch Mineral Services LLC, Koch Waterproofing Solutions, Inc, and Koch Hydrocarbon, LP. Implementation of these services for Koch is in process and target for completion in less than 45 days. The OHS services provided to Koch will replace their previous corporate MSDS management system, which relied on a centralized corporate team, legacy technology, and administrative support to all internal customers. In choosing OHS as their outsourced services provider, Koch will move ownership of MSDS management to the respective business units while still achieving a unified system. OHS will work with multiple EH&S professionals at these Koch business units to manage MSDS requirements for their unique product lines. Koch's use of external OHS resources and technology will support their drive for process efficiency, cost reductions, and on-going achievement of their high EH&S standards. MSDS standardization for global markets, reliable and immediate availability, and compliance are top priorities. A key consideration for chemical and pharmaceutical companies is the financial benefit of outsourcing MSDS management to OHS. Companies attempt to consider the true costs of their processes and further investment in technology, resources, and infrastructure. Typically, OHS can reduce a new customer's costs from 20-40% through the use of OHS standard processes, an industry-standard phrase library, and proprietary technology. These improvements coincide with OHS delivering reliable and accurate data to achieve U.S. and global health and safety compliance. To meet Koch Industries' need for decentralized yet standardized, corporate-wide MSDS management owned by the participating business units, OHS will provide a range of services including: MSDS Authoring and Translations, MSDS Maintenance and Regulatory Updating, MSDS Electronic Repository, Web Hosting, and MSDS On Demand. OHS services will generate standardized MSDS and SDS (Safety Data Sheets for the European Community). OHS will produce these MSDS for use in Koch internal employee systems, product shipments, an external customer website, and an archived document repository. As a result, Koch will eliminate the demands placed on corporate resources and ensure efficient MSDS management at the business unit level. Under the agreement, OHS will collaborate with EH&S professionals at the participating Koch businesses to research, write, and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets for their respective product lines. OHS will deliver MSDS documents in more than six languages, formatted to the ANSI 16-section standard, written to region and country specific formats, and maintained with the latest regulatory data. Scientifically educated and experienced MSDS Authors will research, review, assess, and author or coauthor MSDSs using the OHS proprietary authoring system. Koch will receive quarterly data maintenance and update services in addition to the daily services OHS provides for MSDS creation, delivery, and customer support. OHS customers depend on reliable MSDS information in international languages to support global regulatory compliance, allowing for quick expansion into new markets and a reduction of Hazard Communication costs. In addition to Koch Industries, OHS Authors and technology support hundreds of companies with MSDS authoring, distribution, and data services. The addition of Koch to this customer base reflects the continued expansion of OHS services into the chemical industry in fourth quarter 2002.
