MDL® Isentris®—Integration and analysis of scientific information



Abstract

This white paper explains the business need and technical delivery of Elsevier MDL’s flagship MDL® Isentris® system. As the new generation of MDL technology, Isentris addresses the twin challenges facing pharmaceutical companies today:

At the heart of MDL Isentris is a powerful data integration technology—the Integrating Data Source (IDS). The IDS enables organizations to consistently deliver scientific views of data that are dynamically tailored to the needs of individual scientists and applications. Isentris enhances productivity by giving scientists flexible access to internal and external reference data and by broadly integrating this critical content with organizational business processes and widely-used workflow tools.

Based on open standards, MDL Isentris offers application developers a suite of reusable programming components that can be incorporated within new or existing applications using standard development technologies. MDL Isentris integrates with service-oriented architectures (SOA) and offers a broad portfolio of discovery-specific services that can be immediately deployed to further enhance productivity.

With Isentris, R&D organizations can capitalize on their previous investments in MDL® ISIS and other MDL® technologies, while also gaining the many advantages of a new-generation, data-integrating infrastructure.
